Police car laptop desks are subject to very high stresses through
rapid acceleration and braking, and high-speed cornering. Each of
these presents its own problems to laptop computers and the desks
that hold them, and the latter have to be especially designed for
police and rescue service use.
Laptops are useful additions to police cars and rescue vehicles, but
to police cars in particular. The computers can be used for instant
determination of the status of specific auto registration plates and
of individual names and addresses. It is simple to establish whether
or not a residential address provided by a suspect is genuine or
not, and also whether or not an individual has a previous criminal
record.
There are many incidences whereby an in-car laptop has provided the
instant information needed to make an arrest, and even the opposite:
to avoid making an arrest, and hence saved the waste of a police
officer’s time, and that of the precinct, by avoiding the necessity
to take a suspect ‘down town’ until the facts have been established.
These facts can now be established in-car by means of the computer,
